The Carbon Family

1.~ The elements are in group 14, periods 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

2.~ The elements in the carbon family are carbon, silicon, germanium, tin, and lead.
3.~ This group of elements are solids.
4.~ 3 physical properties of the carbon family are that it consists of one nonmetal (carbon) 2 metals (tin, lead) 2 metalloids (Silicon, Germanium), Carbon can be black, hard or in diamonds, Germanium expands when frozen
5. 3 chemical properties of the carbon family are they have atoms that can gain, lose, or share for electrons when reacting with other elements, its atomic weight is 12, and react in similar ways with oxygen and other elements
6. 3 interesting facts are that carbon plays a role in almost every biological process required to make our lives possible. Melting point is 350 degrees C. It is usually black but it can be clear and colorless and in diamond form.
7. 2 common uses are pencils and the glitter of diamonds in expensive jewelry.
